Pakistani Twitterati praised para-athlete Haider Ali on Friday after he became the first Pakistani to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020.

Haider Ali’s name began trending on Pakistani Twitter minutes after it was announced that he had won the gold medal in the discus throw.

Thousands of people flocked to the microblogging site to congratulate Ali on his outstanding accomplishment. The following is how Pakistanis responded to the victory:

Haider Ali won the gold medal in the Men’s Discus Throw category, hurling the discus 55.26 metres.

Ali’s throw was a personal best and three metres longer than the competition’s runner-up, Ukraine’s Mykola Zhabnyak.

Previously, Haider Ali participated in the Paralympic long jump, earning a silver medal in 2008 and a bronze medal in 2016.
